Barrett Baber tells the story of how the idea for the "Fight On" giving initiative came about in this episode of his podcast called "The Ride"
Barrett Baber On The "Fight On" Initiative
One of the coolest parts about my job is that I get to meet and connect with lots of people. Music has a way of bringing people together. It’s the universal language that we all speak. We’re all human beings. We all have a story. Much like my story, a lot of the people I meet have stories of grit, grind, immense joy and happiness and also hardship and tragedy. In those times of tragedy and adversity, I’ve noticed that the response of many is to plant their feet on the ground and decide to fight. Be it against drug or alcohol addiction, cancer, heart disease, the loss of someone they love or any of the many things that can make life difficult, I love hearing the stories of people who decide to stand up and say “NO”. “No……I will not allow this thing to win”. “I will not give up on doing and being what I want to do and be”. “I will not let this one thing define who I am or who the person I loved was.” "I will.....Fight On.”
These stories of fight and grit and the human spirit give me so much inspiration and hope. The fact still remains that while many folks have the grit and drive to “Fight On” in the face of hardship and adversity, their “fight” is easier when they get support from their fellow human beings. I consistently am asked to support causes in one way or the other and have struggled greatly with how to go about using my position as a music maker and artist to help promote and raise funds for people who are in epic fights in their lives. That’s where the idea for the “Fight On” initiative was born. Every month or two, we’ll highlight a new organization or individual that is doing great things and fighting a good fight. My hope is that this can grow into a great thing that helps bring attention to both organizations and people in need, thus helping them continue their fight. Whatever the fight may be. Thank you for your support. Thank you for kindness. FIGHT ON.
